Bas Koole Third Place Dutch ChampionshipYeah! I got third at the Dutch Championship, pretty happy with my result!

The first day of the competition was crazy, it started with almost no wind at all and it ended with so much wind. Because I didn’t compete last year, like Youri Zoon (#2 place) and Kevin Langeree (#1 place), I needed to qualify for the main event. After the qualifiers the wind picked up to 8 Beaufort and most of the competitors went crazy on the water, huge jumps en insane loops. I was so overpowered on my 7m that I couldn’t show much during my heats, but still I finished on a fourth place in the single elimination.

During the event there where a lot of photographers, here are some great shots of Ydwer.com.

The second day started with the ladies, because of the strong wind their competition got canceled on the first day. It was great to see that there where so much girls competing this year. It was also the first Dutch Championship for Workum local Lisette Blankestijn and she did pretty good, she finished third in the singles. Too bad for her Judith Roetman kicked her from the third position, fourth is still a good result for your first Dutch Championship. Lisette congratz and off course Judith as well, great job!

The battle was on, to keep my fourth place I needed to win from Tijn v. Esch. The heat started pretty close, but he crashed his kite so that was a nice advantage for me. My next component was Rolf vd. Vlugt, also Airush rider, I lost from him during strong wind at the first day. Now I had a strong heat with a Slim Chance, Board Off, KGB, Tweaked Pop to Wrapped with a Pop Out, Front Mobe, Whirly Bird, One Footer, Blind Judge and a couple transissions. I won the heat and my next mission was Youri Zoon, a bit like a mission impossible. I lost that one and finished third after Youri Zoon #2 (number 3 on the world ranking) and Kevin Langeree #1 (number #2 on the world ranking).

It was a great competition and I would like to tank the rescue guys, judges, volunteers and the rest of the organisation. Hopefully we have next year again a great competition with wind like this!

Ydwer.com thanks a lot for the photo’s.
